Jan 2000 - Apr 2000 - Systems Engineer 

Emerald Empire, Washington state USA

Working part-time in this sales and marketing business to achieve a complete IT environment and working practice within the company. Installation of operating systems and office software and being able to demonstrate advantages and effective usages was a key part to this role, with particular emphasis focusing on the importance of using the internet and e-mail to keep inline with advancing business practices.

Aug 1999 - Dec 1999  - Travel and work in South East Asia

After travelling through Spain, Switzerland and Italy, travelled solo overland from Bangkok Thailand to Singapore acquiring knowledge on the effects of western influences in less developed areas of the Far East. Being importunate and gaining part-time work in various Internet café's along the way was important in achieving this. Skills developed included helping users with email problems, advising proprietors on technical difficulties and informing them of new technological advances.

March 1998 - August 1999 - Production Engineer

Assisting the manufacturing manager in the efficient operation of production activities within the coil winding & manufacture of transformers & motors. Reviewing production methods and proposing innovative improvements to achieve productivity. Also in charge of the Year 2000 project to ensure full compliance throughout the business, involving testing, upgrading etc. of all PC equipment and computer related machinery.

May 1997 - Dec 1997 - Volunteer Overseas 

Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO), London and Nigeria

Working and training alongside volunteers to promote self sufficiency and development in the third world involving: learning and applying communication and training skills, adapting to different cultures and work practices, passing on practical skills and knowledge and coping with lack of materials and resources.

July 1996 - Feb 1997 - Sabbatical 

United States of America

Travelled solo throughout the region to educate myself about cultural differences and changing world events. Highlights included a grueling 14 day stay in the Bronx New York, a 4 week train journey across the continent, a two month stint as a technician in an antique restoration company near Seattle and time spent alongside technicians and staff during filming of X-files episodes in Vancouver Canada.

August 1989 - July 1996 - Apprentice / Technician 

GTE Lighting Ltd and Batten and Allen Ltd.

Engineering apprenticeship with GTE lighting involving study and work in various departments within the company, in Dec 1992 the company moved to Yorkshire and I joined Batten & Allen Ltd to complete my apprenticeship and study, where I gained the role of tooling technician, involving problem solving to establish and maintain smooth production of miniature precision components for the electronics industry.
